SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS
Tour Description
The Sacred Valley, named for being the main supplier of food for the Incan empire, stretches along the banks of the Urubamba River, originally called Vilcanota in Quechua, which translates to "Sacred River." Along its banks, the Incas erected archaeological centers that symbolize the constellations of the Andean sky, adding a magical touch to this enchanting valley where history and nature intertwine.
PISAC ARCHAEOLOGICAL COMPLEX:
Located atop a mountain, the Pisac archaeological complex was one of the most significant agricultural centers of Incan culture. This site consists of terraces and Inca architecture structures that extend across the mountaintop and its slopes.
PISAC ARTISAN MARKET:
In the main square of Pisac, the lively artisan market unfolds, where locals exhibit their textile masterpieces and typical ceramics. Among the creations, vibrant ponchos, handwoven bags, and delicate clay ceramics stand out, among other art manifestations.
OLLANTAYTAMBO FORTRESS:
The Ollantaytambo Fortress, surrounded by imposing terraces, stands next to the picturesque town of Ollantaytambo. This site was a military, religious, and cultural hub during the Inca Empire, and its majestic structures are tangible proof of the Incan architectural prowess.
CHINCHEROS:
In this charming town, the vestiges of the ancient royal estate of Tupac Inca Yupanqui are exceptionally well-preserved. This gives us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the past and glimpse what the constructions were like in the Incan era. Additionally, in Chincheros, a colonial temple adds an additional touch of history to this picturesque corner.
