ISLA DEL SOL FROM PUNO - FULL DAY
Tour Description
The Isla del Sol, with its 9.6 kilometers in length and 4.8 kilometers in width, holds profound spiritual significance. Legend has it that it was from this place that the God Viracocha emerged and created humanity after the great flood.
The island is divided into three distinct communities. In the south, you'll find 'Yumani,' a highly visited area, housing the most remarkable archaeological ruins like the Pilkokaina Temple and the impressive Inca stone stairways leading to the Fountain of Youth. This part of the island offers various accommodation options, restaurants, cafes, and pizzerias catering to visitor comfort.
The northern part of the island, accessible by boat from Yumani or through a approximately three-hour hike along an ancient pre-Columbian trail, is equally intriguing. Here, you'll discover archaeological sites like La Chincana, a labyrinth of stone walls, the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Rock, and the Ceremony Table. There's also an interpretation circuit allowing you to explore and understand the island's history, alongside an archaeological museum housing valuable artifacts and relics.
The Isla del Sol, with its natural beauty and rich history, invites you to discover its hidden treasures and immerse yourself in the spirituality that surrounds it.
