TITICACA LAKE FROM PUNO - COPACABANA - SUN ISLAND – PUNO (ONE DAY)

4.9(128)

Tour Description

Copacabana was originally a pre-Columbian ceremonial and astronomical observation center destroyed by the conquerors, whose traces remain in the lithic ruins found on the outskirts. In its place, the beautiful Sanctuary of the Virgin of Copacabana was built in the 16th century. The dark-skinned Virgin sculpted in wood by a local indigenous person. Its altar is covered in gold and silver, and the attire of the small image is filled with valuable jewels from the colonial era.

The Island of the Sun is considered sacred, being the point of origin of the god Wiracocha, who according to legend created humanity after a great flood. The southern region is more visited, highlighting the Pilkokaina Temple and the Inca staircases leading to the Fountain of Youth. Here, there are various lodging and restaurant options.

Lake Titicaca, at 3800 meters above sea level, a majestic natural treasure nestled in the heights of the Andes between Peru and Bolivia, stands out not only as the highest navigable lake in the world but also for its fascinating history and the presence of emblematic islands. In its waters, the Islands of the Sun and the Moon, with their Inca vestiges, offer a glimpse into a rich cultural heritage. On the Peruvian side, islands like Taquile, Amantaní, and the floating islands of the Uros arouse curiosity with their authentic traditions and imposing landscapes. Lake Titicaca stands as a sanctuary of mythology, archaeology, and natural beauty, establishing itself as a unique destination in the Andean region.
