CITY TOUR (HALF DAY)
Tour Description
CATHEDRAL OF CUSCO:
We start our exciting tour by visiting the majestic Cathedral of Cusco, the Church of the Holy Family, and the Church of Triumph. These colonial monuments treasure immense artistic value and stand on what used to be the Palace of Inca Wiracocha. Inside, colonial art treasures unfold, such as wood carvings, the choir, the pulpit, decorated altars, and beautiful paintings from the Cusco School of Fine Arts. Additionally, the embossed silver works add splendor to this architectural ensemble.
QORICANCHA:
Our next stop takes us to the magical Temple of the Sun, located a few meters from the Plaza de Armas of Cusco. This religious center was erected in honor of the Sun God and reflects the peak of Inca architectural and engineering prowess. Inside, you will enjoy stunning paintings from the Cusco School of colonial art that add a touch of splendor to this historic place.
SACSAYHUAMÁN:
We head to the impressive Inca construction of Sacsayhuamán, located 2 km north of the city. This archaeological legacy stands out for its monumentality and the millimetric precision with which the huge carved stones are joined to create an imposing fortress. Some of these stones reach heights of 9 meters or 30 feet. From here, you'll enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city of Cusco.
QENQO:
Located 4 km northeast of Cusco, Qenqo is a place where the Incas used to carve caves and altars for religious purposes, including the mummification of their deceased. Outside, you'll find a semicircular amphitheater with trapezoidal niches, as well as a monolith resembling a puma about 6 meters high. This site is a testament to Incan spirituality.
PUKA PUKARA:
"Puka Pukara" means "red fortress" due to the reddish color of the stones, caused by the high iron concentration in them. Here, you'll discover fascinating architecture that includes fountains, aqueducts, and various Inca enclosures. It is believed that this place used to be an ancient tambo used for resting and serving as a surveillance post to protect Tambomachay.
TAMBOMACHAY:
Our last stop takes us to Tambomachay, located about 8 km north of Cusco. This archaeological site had a ritual purpose related to water and served as a resting and bathing place for the leader of the Inca Empire. Experience the essence of Incan culture in this enriching place.
