Tour Description

Machu Picchu is a famous tourist destination in Peru, known as the "Old Mountain." This Incan site, one of the seven wonders of the world, is located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, along the Urubamba River. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. The Inca citadel has a rich history dating back to the 15th century and is believed to have been the home of the ninth Inca, Pachacutec. Discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, an American explorer, Machu Picchu impresses visitors with its stunning stone constructions and sacred structures, such as the Temple of the Three Windows and the Intiwatana. It's an unforgettable destination to explore Incan history and the majesty of its architecture in a spectacular setting.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Departure: At 05:00 from your hotel in Cusco.
  • Completion: Around midnight in the center of Cusco.
  • We'll start by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco and head by vehicle to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there, we'll take the train to Aguas Calientes, where you can enjoy breakfast (not included) and purchase water and snacks before boarding the bus that will take you to the Machu Picchu citadel. In Machu Picchu, you'll join a one-hour tour with our guide, who will provide information about the construction and function of each space in this archaeological site. Then, you'll have free time for photography and exploration of the citadel before returning, ensuring you're at the Aguas Calientes station half an hour before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, we'll board a vehicle that will take you back to Cusco's historic center.
  • Important Note: It's not possible to climb Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu mountains as the visit to the citadel occurs during the second shift, which doesn't allow ascent to the mountains.
  • Visit to the archaeological site:
  • To enter Machu Picchu, you need an entry called "Llaqta Machu Picchu." If you've chosen a program that doesn't include the entrance, you can purchase it on the Ministry of Culture's website.
  • The entrance will allow access to the archaeological site following one of the four circuits, which you can choose once you reach the citadel entrance:
  • Circuit 1: Includes the high and low parts of the archaeological site, as well as the terraces and agricultural area for 3 hours.
  • Circuit 2: Encompasses the high and low parts of the archaeological site, as well as the routes to Inti Punku and the Inca Bridge for 4 hours.
  • Circuit 3: Comprises the lower part of the archaeological site, including the agricultural zone, the Temple of the Sun, the Inca House, and the Archaeological Reserve for 1.5 hours.
  • Circuit 4: Covers the lower part of the archaeological site, including the agricultural zone, the Temple of the Sun, the Inca House, the Sacred Rock, and the water mirrors for 2.5 hours.
  • We recommend choosing Circuit 2 to explore the citadel as it allows you to visit more attractions within Machu Picchu and capture classic photographs.
